chapel of Our Lady Mother of God is located in Ponta slender, island of
San Miguel açores
The current chapel of Our Lady Mother of God in the top of the same
name, in Ponta Delgada, is the second that was built there.
The first was founded by Jorge Afonso da Costa Columbreiro, which was
near his home.
We know, however, that in the year of 1915 was that old temple
demolished with the claim that could serve as a target for German
submarines during the first Great War.
The ladies micaelenses made, however, the vote of the
building again.
On March 25, 1925 was launched, the site of the temple earlier, the
first stone after a large cortege left from San Pedro,
being said at the top of the Mother of God a Mass, the Vicar
Herculaneum Augusto de Medeiros.
Within that first stone was placed a glass bottle containing the
minutes of the ceremony, written in Latin by Father Ledo, Bettencourt,
then Cure of St. Peter.
After this act spoke the late Father Joseph Jacinto Botelho, crater,
which produced an impressive sermon.
Soon after, construction began on the basis of a project architect
Norberto Correia. Because the work was slow and in 1942 was itself
incomplete,
the temple was occupied by Portuguese troops during World War II.
